Questions on Energy Transitions

Q15. The meters below show the readings for a household at the beinning and the end a 'quarter' of a year.

(a) How many units of electricity did the household use in this quarter?

When you take a reading you only note down the number of kWh that register - yu do not include the partial kWh at all.

63913 - 63310 = 603 units

(b) If electricity coats 5.5p per unit, how much does this amount of electricity cast (to the nearest penny)?

5.5p x 603 = 3316.5p

= £33-17

(c) If there is a standing charge of £0.26 a day, what is the total bill for the quarter?

Number of days = 30 + 31 + 31 = 92

0.26 x 92 = £23-92 for standing chage

Total = £33-17 + £23-92 = £57-09

(d) How do you think the bill for the next quarter would compare with the bill for this quarter? Give a reason for your answer.

The next winter will include colder days and longer nights, therefore electricity use will increase and the bill will increase.
